Sad outcome to search for missing Missoula man, family thanks community

FurrerA Missoula man missing since dropping off his daughter at the airport early Monday apparently died of hypothermia after becoming lost and then locking the keys in his truck.

In an e-mail to the Missoulian, Lynn Pasqualetti thanked local residents for helping in the search for her dad, Ron Furrer.

“Unfortunately, we did not have a good outcome, but with your help we had a ton of people looking for my Dad,” she wrote. “He was found Tuesday evening up at Nine Mile. It appears he was confused and took a wrong turn, ended up stuck in the snow at the end of the plowed road.

“In his frustration, he locked the keys in the truck and died of hypothermia sometime after 5:30 p.m. Monday.”

Missoula police started looking for the 77-year-old man Monday, when he went missing after dropping his daughter off at the airport at about 6 a.m.
