Alleged calf-napper in Montana court

People steal all sorts of strange things – but a newborn calf?

Once again, the Ravalli Republic’s Perry Backus gets a tip of the hat (a bang of the gavel?) for this one:

Cody Lee Hill was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing a newborn calf from a Corvallis ranch on that same day.

Hill, 33, appeared Wednesday before Ravalli County Justice of the Peace Robin Clute on a felony theft charge.

Court records said an employee of the Weber Ranch reported the stolen calf.

Hill became a suspect because he had allegedly been in the area where the cow and calf had been isolated following a difficult birth.

Hill’s dogs were still there when the theft was discovered.

Here’s the key sentence in Perry’s story. You saw this one coming, right?

“He said he was intoxicated at the time of the theft.”

I’m happy to pass along the news that the calf was returned to its mama and began to nurse immediately.
