It felt a little like the courts beat went on overdrive yesterday. Here are some highlights:
K-9 “made contact with … left butt cheek.” In the Missoulian:
A Washington state stripper and her boyfriend allegedly tried to flee Missoula police attempting to arrest them Wednesday on drug charges. But the woman ended up handcuffed on the ground while a police dog bit the man on the rear end.
Scheme nets five years in fed pen. And, as the Missoulian story recounts, a lecture from U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy:
U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy sentenced Kenneth Schneider to 63 months in federal prison and ordered him to pay nearly $1.8 million in restitution to the 130 people around the country he bilked in a mortgage refinancing scheme….
It’s an awfully sad fact in this country that there are so many people like Mr. Schneider,” the judge said, mentioning people such as nationally known con man Bernie Madoff, now serving a 150-year federal prison sentence. “It just seems that the ethic is look out for yourself and don’t give a damn about anyone else.”
Don’t mess with this Holiday clerk: One more from today’s Missoulian:
Missoula police are seeking two men in connection with the attempted robbery early Thursday morning of the Holiday convenience store on Russell Street. …
“The clerk grabbed the suspect and threw him on the floor,” said Detective Sgt. Travis Welsh. The two men ended up outside, where another man, who apparently was with the suspect, was waiting. Both of those men ran away when the clerk threatened to call 9-1-1.
Sure hope today is quieter.
